There are still two rounds to go for the conclusion of the Dunlop CIV, but the Championship is already looking to the future. And it does so together with important championships such as the German one, with a view to creating an ever greater system. Among the novelties of the next season for the Italian there will be the farewell to the Supersport 300 category and the introduction, in its place, of the Sportbike.
The new class will be open to the possibility of participation of models from the most prestigious manufacturers such as Aprilia, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Triumph. From 2025 the Sportbike will therefore be at the start of the Dunlop CIV but also of the IDM as well as the British BSB Championship (where it is already present this year), as evidence of the important collaborative work done by the three championships and their respective Federations to make the offer of races at a European level increasingly homogeneous. With the technical regulations of the championships that will be harmonized and adapted to the regulations of the world championships, given that the Sportbike, in 2026, will be included in the context of the Superbike World Championship.
Giovanni Copioli, FMI President, commented: “We are very pleased to be able to announce the new Sportbike category in the CIV for next year. Even more so because it is a work carried out at a European level, together with important championships such as the German one, and which will pave the way for the World Championship. A commitment made also looking at the proposals of the manufacturers and the models they produce, with a view to creating an ever greater system with many of the motorcycling players in the field of speed. The new category could not have had better premises”.
