Mexico City.- When an athlete is supported financially, it is not just money that is given to them, but also confidence, said Prisca Awiti.
The judoka, silver medalist in the 63-kilogram category at Paris 2024, said that she felt fully supported during this Olympic cycle, as by providing her with money for her preparation, she also received the message that they believed in her and that was reflected in the dojo, which is why she asks for more support and trust in the athletes.
“Support is not only important to help people leave the country to compete with the best in the world and go to camps, but I think that economic support (from the authorities) is also about knowing that you believe in them, that they can win a medal.
“The support I received in this cycle made me feel that they believed in me, that what they invested was because they believed that I could make it to the end. I hope that this teaches that support is important because it gives us the opportunity to achieve many things,” said the medalist at a press conference where she was accompanied by Vanessa Zambotti.
Prisca Awiti admits that her medal was unexpected for the sports world, but not for her, because on the day of her competition she was convinced that she would make history.
“Judo is a very beautiful sport, because it depends on the day the athlete competes. I competed that day and had no doubts. I knew I had prepared myself as best as I could and in the final part I showed people that I wanted to win,” concluded Prisca, who wants to be an inspiration for the boys and girls of the country.
