After winning three BMX medals in three consecutive editions of the Olympic Games (gold in London 2012 and Rio 2016 and silver in Tokyo 2020), Colombian Mariana Pajón was unable to win again in Paris 2024: she was eliminated in the semi-final.

However, what happened, although it caused her sadness, left Mariana calm, and she left everything on the track.
“I was going to retire in 2022, I said no more, but I started to think that the Games were going to be in Paris, which is my second home, I knew that many Colombians, my family, would be there and that’s why I made the decision to continue. But besides that, I did it because I wanted to show that it was still possible. Every time I stood at the starting line I remembered many things and I was doing good times, but in life when you doubt, you lose, and that’s what happened here,” he added.
Is Mariana Pajón switching to track cycling?
Mariana has not closed the door on returning to the Olympic Games. In fact, her brother Miguel, one of the key people in her career, left an enigmatic message on social media, insinuating that the three-time Olympic medalist could change disciplines and move to track cycling.
This is not a discipline foreign to Mariana. She already competed alongside Martha Bayona at the 2017 Bolivarian Games in Santa Marta. Speaking to Caracol TV, Pajón did not rule out the change.
“The idea is to accompany Martica, I already did it in 2017, we won a medal at the Bolivarian Games, but on that occasion I couldn’t dedicate myself to the two events due to injuries and preparation, but I think now is the time to take the step and if they give me the go-ahead to start a cycle with them,” declared.
“I love this, it’s part of training. It’s not a no, not at all, I’m going to give myself some time, I’m going to give myself a good amount of time to analyze it, see, see the reality of your capabilities and how far you can go. I love this, let’s see what happens,” she added, interviewed by RCN.
This Wednesday, Mariana was at the velodrome helping to load bikes and supporting the Colombians who were competing. Will there be a new version of Mariana?
