Juarez City.- During the first seven days of August, three fatalities occurred in road accidents, equaling the total number of victims recorded in July, the General Coordination of Road Safety (CGSV) reported yesterday.
In this case, the person responsible for the accident fled the scene, while in the two previous crashes, the drivers were responsible for the incident, according to the expert report.
“We continue to reinforce preventive campaigns and the presence of police officers on the streets,” said the head of the corporation, César Tapia Martínez, yesterday.
He added that drivers also need to take greater responsibility behind the wheel to prevent further loss of life.
This year, 46 families have already lost a loved one due to a crash, accident or rollover in this city, according to data from Road Safety.
The victims
As reported, a man was killed after being run over on Monday night by a driver who fled and neglected his duty to assist a pedestrian. The accident occurred on Mesquite and José María streets in the Insurgentes neighborhood.
Neighbors in the area said they heard the screeching of tires of a vehicle and when they went out to look, they found only the body.
The first fatal accident occurred on August 3, when a woman unofficially identified as Griselda MH, 50, died early Saturday morning after crashing into a retaining wall that marked the entrance to one of the elevated bridges on Juan Pablo II Boulevard.
Traffic officers reported that the driver was traveling west to east in a white 2008 Chevrolet Captiva when she crashed into the bridge that rises over the intersection with Hermanos Escobar Avenue. The wall destroyed the entire front of the vehicle, leaving it sunken.
The second fatality was a motorcyclist who crashed on Ponciano Arriaga Avenue, between Maclovio Herrera and Julio Acosta streets. The preliminary report indicates that the driver lost control while driving at excessive speed.
The vehicle skidded several meters and crashed into a metal buttress on the central median strip, witnesses said.
It was reported that the pilot remained at the scene for more than 90 minutes without receiving medical attention, as the traffic officers allegedly refused to move him from the scene. The ambulances were concentrated in Cereso 3, after a fight in Area 2.
