Following its success in London’s West End, the play “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” will make its debut at New York’s Marquis Theatre, promising to bring the mysterious and compelling atmosphere that the Netflix series is known for. Set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in 1959, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” takes place years before the events of the television series. The plot follows a young Jim Hopper, Joyce Maldonado and Bob Newby’s sister as they deal with the arrival of a new boy in town, Henry Creel. This new addition to the cast of characters promises to uncover even more of the enigmatic past of Hawkins and its residents.
The production features the direct involvement of Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers, who contributed to the original story and serve as creative producers. The show’s longtime collaborator Kate Trefry is writing. “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” opened in London to rave reviews, scooping two prestigious Olivier Awards: Best New Entertainment and Best Production Design. Reviews were unanimous in their praise for the special effects, which they called jaw-dropping and extraordinary. Tickets for the Broadway show will go on sale on September 13th for pre-order, with general sale starting on September 17th. For those who can’t make it to New York, there’s some good news: the fifth and final season of Stranger Things will be available on Netflix next year.
