A little over a year ago many of us enjoyed One Piece Odysseya game that made the pirate franchise take a break from the fighting and musou genre, since anime releases don’t usually go beyond these for fear of failure. However, with this particular installment, they opted for a turn-based RPG that didn’t turn out so badly; of course, it didn’t reach perfection, but at least it fulfilled the goal that was in mind and in the end it brought a smile to those of us who are fans of the saga.
However, a platform that has been relegated as always was Nintendo Switchwhich despite having dozens of titles in this franchise, on this occasion it was decided not to add the new video game, this was something that many did not like at the time. I think that Bandai Namco realized this and surprised us with an announcement at the beginning of 2024, confirming that the saying “better late than never” applies to every situation, and hybrid users would have the opportunity to enjoy it.
In fact, a few days ago we were sent a copy of One Piece Odyssey Deluxe Edition for said device, and as at the time I was able to review the first release in its PS5 version, I have had to review it once again to let you know if it is worth acquiring it. And this time we will not go into much depth about the gameplay, since for this we already have the previous review, so now I will concentrate on explaining more about the technical part, something that is always up for debate when talking about Switch.
First of all and speaking generally, this game is a very classic JRPG in the style of Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Golden Sunamong others of the genre, in which we will control the Straw Hat crew having turn-based combat but with the known skills of the anime. The displacement will be in a new location known as Wafordan island that, although it is not canon within the main story, was at least created as an OVA by the same creator of the manga, the creative Eichiro Oda.
Moving on to what matters with One Piece Odyssey Deluxe Editionthe performance has surprised me but in a good way, since on consoles like Xbox Series S at the time it was limited to a very stable 30 frames per second, and that is why I was afraid of the Switch part, having exactly the same framerate, but to our joy as with the console of Microsoftthey don’t fall. This is starting off on the right foot, as players won’t encounter inconsistencies or abrupt drops.
The graphical part is another matter, as there you can notice a slight drop in comparison to other versions, since in most it runs at least at the usual 1080p, and that is because it also appeared on previous generation consoles such as Xbox One and PS4. Although I’m not going to tell you that it’s a disaster; in dock mode it obviously doesn’t reach the aforementioned resolution but you can clearly distinguish the elements, especially the texts, which are very important in JRPGs.
On the other hand, on a laptop it does not manage to cover the usual 720p, it goes to something lower, but I think it is enough to fulfill the task in question, since there are games such as for example Xenoblade Chronicles 3 that don’t manage to look the most correct way but at least they run decently. That is the case of One Piece Odyssey Deluxe Editiondoes not stand out compared to other platforms that have it available as Steam Deckbut at least it’s going in the most stable way possible so that it’s enjoyable for the fan.
Obviously, the portable factor is something that never fails, so those who buy the Switch edition will have a considerable length adventure on the hybrid, and in the end if one is not so fussy about the details, it is very likely that the player will have a good time. In addition, there is the factor in which the Japanese voice actors are present, which is always a plus in any title of this title, which fulfills those who do not miss a single chapter broadcast on streaming or TV.
Let’s not forget that since this is the deluxe edition, there are some cosmetics that users will receive at a certain point in the adventure that is a little further along in the prologue, so patience will be important.
Bandai Namco continues to bet on bringing some ports to Switch, so I have no doubt that in the next console they will continue to give their support, especially seeing the response from the people who buy their different games, whether they are anime adaptations, fighting game releases, Tekken or the action and RPG games that it develops FromSoftwareWith this in mind, I’m beginning to suspect that Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero will also be released in Nintendosince at one time they had all the classic Budokai.
In the end, even though it doesn’t stand out too much in the visual part and its frames are not the fastest, I totally recommend it.
