Xiaomi recently unveiled its first electric car, the Xiaomi SU7which is already making waves. Although it cannot compete in terms of image with luxury brands like Porsche or Tesla, the SU7 represents a new vision of the connected electric car.
A project born from scratch
The idea of developing a electric vehicle came to Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun just over three years ago. In record time, the company has created a car that promises to revolutionize the market. Xiaomi has invested nearly $1.4 billion in the project and has involved 3,400 engineers and over ten thousand experts globally. The result is an elegant, reliable and innovative car, created entirely “in-house”.
Engines and performance
The Xiaomi SU7 is powered by engines developed entirely by the company: HyperEngine V6/V6s and HyperEngine V8s. The prototype version, Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, aims for maximum performance with 578 horsepower, 27,200 rpm and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.97 seconds.
Integrated technology
One of the distinctive elements of the SU7 is the operating system HyperOSwhich turns the car into an extension of the smartphone. This software not only manages the on-board entertainment, but also allows you to control various components of the vehicle via voice commands and interact with smart home devices.
Commercial success
Since its launch in March, the Xiaomi SU7 has received over 75,000 orders and shipped more than 10,000 units in June alone. Sales are expected to exceed 120,000 units by 2024, thanks in part to a competitive price tag, with the base model costing around 27,000 euros (215,900 yuan).
Xiaomi plans to bring the SU7 to Italy too, probably next year, although an official date has not yet been announced.
