We are now officially halfway through the transfer windowand although Euro 2024 has captured much of our attention so far, there have already been many important moves.
And there’s still plenty more to come. From Victor Osimhen’s inevitable departure from SSC Napoli to Manchester United’s splashing out on another centre-back, here are the biggest transfers we expect to happen in August.
Conte’s favourite player, who led Inter to their first Scudetto in 2021 under his tutelage, is being heavily linked with a possible transfer to the manager’s new club SSC Napoli this summer.
Considering the fact that Napoli need a replacement for Victor Osimhen (more on that later) and Lukaku’s impressive Serie A scoring record (70 goals in 129 games), this deal would make a lot of sense.
There was a time when Federico Chiesa was one of the best wingers in world football.
That was before he suffered a serious knee injury that has come to plague him in the latter years of his career. The injury has proved to be such a big concern for Juventus that they are willing to let the player leave for around €20m this summer.
And even though he’s had his share of injury problems, €20m for Chiesa still seems like a good deal, doesn’t it?
The winger has been the player most linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with Chelsea and Arsenal among the high-profile suitors.
Given Arsenal’s need for quality cover for Bukayo Saka, it would make sense for the Gunners to go out and sign the Italian.
After Leny Yoro was seen on crutches in just two friendly matches of his Manchester United career, it’s pretty clear that the club need to sign another centre-back this summer.
And that central defender could, and should, be Matthijs de Ligt.
The Dutch international played the best football of his career under current United manager Erik ten Hag while at Ajax, and could rediscover that form under his guidance at Old Trafford.
Adrien Rabiot, who is now officially a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired at the end of June, has had many suitors in recent weeks.
Real Madrid, Liverpool, AC Milan and Chelsea have all been linked with the midfielder, but at the moment, Manchester United look like the most likely destination for Rabiot.
Victor Osimhen’s transfer from Napoli has been a hot topic of conversation for the past year and it looks like we’ll soon be able to stop talking about it.
With Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain interested in the Nigerian star, it remains to be seen where he will actually end up, but we’re backing the latter to win the race.
The Ligue 1 champions have both the money and the need (to replace Kylian Mbappé) to sign Osimhen before the transfer window closes on August 30.
