Digital Foundry has performed the analysis of Marvel Rivalsthe superhero shooter from NetEase Games currently in beta on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Powered by the powerful Unreal Engine 5, does the game live up to the sophisticated technologies guaranteed by this graphics engine?
Let’s start by saying that the developers they aimed for 60 fps on all platformsworking on dynamic resolution (from 1440p to 810p) and effects in order to stably maintain this target. Well, on PS5 and Xbox Series X everything works perfectly, without any problems.
On Xbox Series S, bigger compromises were clearly necessary.with a value that generally moves around 972p but also drops to 540p in the most complicated cases, also presenting lower quality textures in order to reduce the computational load and maintain performance.
On PC you can get the best experience, provided of course you have an adequate configuration, and there are no skimps on the color-based lighting either. Lumen technology, which is missing on consoles and has been replaced by a normal screen space reflection.
Performance in order
As the excitement grows around Marvel Rivals, which has recorded excellent numbers with the closed beta on Steam, Digital Foundry has been able to verify that in terms of performance NetEase’s stock performs well regardless of platformmaintaining 60 fps almost perfectly.
Of course, there is still work to be done because in a limited number of situations annoying uncertainties occurespecially when moving around the map, but it could also be that this is due to some problem with the netcode.
The situation is different for some specific effects, for example the opening of the portals in Doctor Strange, which produces noticeable frame rate drops a bit everywhere: the hope is that they will be fixed between now and the official launch.
