A German army Eurofighter breaks a record on the route from Japan to Hawaii. The record also highlights the flexibility of the fighter jet.
Honolulu – The Eurofighter is not only an important link in the chain of armed forces. Also in the defense of the NATOThe fighter jet plays an important role at the borders. This is demonstrated not least by the emergency launch of Eurofighters, which intercepted Russian aircraft on the eastern flank.
Eurofighter sets sensational record – Fighter jet sets new mark at military exercise in the Indo-Pacific
Nevertheless, fighter jets like the Eurofighter tend to be deployed in a relatively small area where they can play to their strengths. But now one of the fighter planes in service with the German Armed Forces has apparently set a sensational record on the way to the “RIMPAC” maneuver.
According to the Air Force, at the start of the military exercise in the Indo-Pacific, a Eurofighter flew the route faster than ever before. The news comes a few days after the report that a Eurofighter fighter jet crashed during the international exercise “Pitch Black” in northern Australia. So now there is some positive news. According to a spokesman, the fighter jet covered the approximately 8,600-kilometer route from Japan to Hawaii in 10 hours and 31 minutes. It apparently needed five refuelings in the air to set the new record.
German army Eurofighter sets new long-distance record: Fighter jet with new tactical component
The Eurofighter’s sensational record is all the more astonishing because fighter jets are not designed for such long distances. Their advantages lie more in a narrow radius, which is close to the airfield where they are stationed. This is why some countries also have aircraft carriers in their arsenal in order not to lose the mobility and flexibility of the fighter jets and instead bring them as close as possible to the respective area of operation.
The latest flight with the Eurofighter, however, shows that the fighter jets have another tactical component up their sleeve. The record shows that, in theory, even a distant deployment location is within the operational range. However, refueling in the air must be guaranteed so that the fighter jet can fly directly to its target without any further stops.
Eurofighter involved in military exercise: Fighter jets train low-level flight, air attack and air defense
The military exercise “RIMPAC” in Hawaii is part of the large-scale “Pacific Skies” exercise series that is currently underway. Training is also taking place in Japan, Australia and India, among other places. Alaska is also one of them, where fighter jets from the USA and Canada recently intercepted several bombers from Russia and China. But the incidents are apparently not just one-sided. Russia has also already launched fighter jets to prevent US bombers from flying over.
In total, more than 30 aircraft, fighter jets such as the Eurofighter, helicopters, transport and tanker aircraft will take part in the exercise until mid-August. In addition to the German army, the French air force with Mirage fighter jets, which have already intercepted Russian aircraft, and the Spanish air force are also taking part. Their F-16 fighter jets have also had to deal with fighter jets from Russia in the recent past.
Eurofighter fighter jets in action: Defence Minister Pistorius visits the region
From Monday (29 July) the Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius from the SPD will travel to several countries in the region. During the one-week military-political trip to the US state of Hawaii, South Korea and the Philippines, Pistorius will, according to his ministry, hold talks with colleagues and visit German soldiers who are currently deployed there.
The region has become increasingly important geopolitically in recent years. The German army is taking part in several multinational exercises in the Indo-Pacific this year. Pistorius’ agenda includes a visit to troops on board the German frigate “Baden-Württemberg”, which, like the task force supply ship “Frankfurt am Main”, is taking part in “RIMPAC”.
