Mexico City.- Ron Simons, four-time Tony Award-winning actor and producer, died at the age of 63, of unknown causes, his production company SimonSays Entertainment announced.
“It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of our beloved, blessed and much-favored friend, Ronald Keith Simons. Funeral details will be released soon,” the producer wrote in a statement on Facebook.
The creative was born in Detroit on November 30, 1960, graduated from Columbia Business School in 1989 with an MBA in marketing and international business, and began his professional career at Microsoft as a product director in San Francisco.
Until the age of 39, he changed his path and earned his master’s degree in acting at the University of Washington and eventually moved from California to New York, where he joined the Harlem Classical Theater and began booking guest roles in films and television shows, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.
Some of his screen credits over the years include Jonny Zero, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, 27 Dresses, Gun Hill Road, Daredevil, The Resident and Then Came You
His first job as a producer was on the 2010 film Night Catches Us, starring Kerry Washington and Anthony Mackie. As for theater, he got his start with the 2012 revival of Porgy and Bess, starring Audra McDonald and Norm Lewis.
Simons co-produced several Broadway shows throughout his career, winning Tony Awards for Porgy and Bess, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, and Jitney.
