Mexico City.- In view of the renewal of the leadership of the national PAN, Senator Damián Zepeda proposed that the internal election be opened to society.
The current president of the National Executive Committee, Marko Cortés, can no longer be re-elected and, according to the statutes, must leave during the second semester.
The blue and white statutes establish that the president must be elected through an internal election among the almost 250 thousand members; Until a few years ago, the members of the National Council elected their leader.
Next week the Permanent Commission will meet and, it has emerged, that body will issue a call for the National Council to meet, the body that could announce the opening of the internal renewal process.
After the resounding disaster of June 2, Zepeda points out in an interview the relevance of National Action opening itself to society and, in a practical way, allowing citizens to get involved in the renewal of their leader.
“The central issue that PANism should do is reinvent itself or die as a competitive option. The first step is to open completely to society: for years society has been told ‘we are going to take you into account’, the time has come for decisions and they are not taken into account. What I say is ‘stop telling them: do it,” said the legislator.
“At least the nine million voters who voted for the PAN, and, second, the sixteen million who voted for the alliance of our candidate Xóchitl; and, ideally, all the Mexicans who want a change. You can’t want it to be “it is credible to open the PAN if when the time comes to make decisions, you want to pause and ask them to wait for you while you decide with a registry controlled by your friends.”
With severe questions due to the intervention of the leaders known as “padroneros” who manipulate the militancy at will to favor a candidate, Cortés was elected president of the party in the elections that took place.
The version that suggests that a change to the statutes could be encouraged so that the PAN party returns to the previous method and the election of the national leader remains in the hands of the National Council.
They propose complete refoundation
In the midst of the strong setback that the PAN suffered after the June 2 elections, former governor of Querétaro Francisco Domínguez affirmed that the blue and white team must be refounded.
“As I have said before, the PAN does not need a simple change, but a complete refoundation. It is crucial to understand the seriousness of the message that society has sent us,” he warned.
In his social networks, the former president considered that National Action must “build from the base, starting with the municipalities, and offer a clear vision of the country we want. In addition, we must be supportive and inclusive, supporting those who aspire to escape poverty “.
Opposed to “dimes and diretes”, Gonzalo Altamirano Días, former leader of the capital, said that the PAN should not get involved in sterile discussions in the face of the authoritarian threat.
“Our democratic framework is in real danger. In the PAN the first thing we must do is avoid falling into discussions that do not pay off and distance ourselves from the electoral anecdote. We must get out of that scheme. We have to recognize the contribution that Xóchitl Gálvez made” , he stated.
