The developers of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO they made a strange choice regarding the split-screen local multiplayer mode: it will be usable on only one map, that of the Room of Spirit and Time. Producer Jun Furutani explained the reason for this decision to our microphones during the Summer Game Fest, making it clear that local multiplayer is considered an extra compared to online multiplayer, to which more attention has been paid.
Only one screen
The developers wanted to prioritize the experience lived on a single screen, with the aim of make the most of a Dragon Ball fight. To our question “Here at the Summer Game Fest you have confirmed the return of local multiplayer in split screen, but only for the room of Spirit and Time. I imagine it’s a question of technical performance?” we were answered very clearly: “When we started developing the game, the focus was on online and single player, but then we realized how important it was to give the possibility of playing in a local multiplayer mode, although more limited. As you have guessed, the choice of the Spirit and Time room is linked to a technical question. The most important aspect for us is the user experience, and not having buildings that collapse and mountains that are destroyed. helps us have split-screen multiplayer battles while maintaining high quality.”
Previous rumors had claimed that Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO would not have had a local multiplayer mode. Now it turns out that it actually exists but is limited to just one map. Could come the suspicion that it was added at the last moment but, even if this were the case, it would only be confirmation that the development team does not consider it a priority compared to the other game modes.
