Mexico City.- The Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (Infonavit) assured that according to a telephone survey it conducted with a thousand workers, 80 percent of them are in favor of the constitutional reform that would allow the Institute to rent and build homes.
While 66 percent expressed interest in renting a home built by Infonavit, while 29 percent said they would not be interested.
The above is in accordance with information provided by the Institute, where it detailed that the survey aimed to evaluate the knowledge and opinion of Infonavit; the quality of care, current situation and economic expectations, workers voluntarily affiliated with Infonavit.
He indicated that of the total number of workers surveyed, 600 questionnaires were for beneficiaries of the Institute and 400 for employed people who were not entitled (independent), where the survey was carried out from April 24 to May 7 of this year.
The survey showed that 45 percent of workers do have knowledge about constitutional reform, while 55 percent said no.
They were asked if they were aware that the reform also proposes that the home built by Infonavit does not represent more than 30 percent of the income of the worker who rents these homes, where 26 percent answered yes and 72 said no.
They were also asked if they knew that with the reform, by renting the home for 10 years the worker will obtain the right to acquire it, 29 percent answered yes and 69 percent said no.
On February 5, the Executive presented an initiative for constitutional reform in housing matters so that Infonavit can build and rent properties.
The institute has indicated that with this initiative it could build 75 thousand houses a year. And what it would seek is to complement the housing supply available for workers, as well as build residences near work centers and at lower costs.
