Mexico City.- Actress Catherine Laga’aia was chosen by Disney to play Moana in the live-action film that the studio is preparing with Dwayne Johnson as Maui, reported Variety.
“I’m very excited to embrace this character because Moana is one of my favorites,” the actress told the American media.
The young woman who will star in Disney’s next live-action proposal also said she felt honored to represent the girls with whom she shares physical characteristics and make room for the people of the Pacific Islands.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to celebrate Samoa and all Pacific Island people, and represent young girls who look like me,” she said.
The role marks Laga’aia’s debut on the big screen, after having participated in some episodes of the Prime Video series The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart.
Also joining the cast are John Tui as Moana’s father, Frankie Adams as her mother, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.
The announcement of Moana was announced in April, with the news that Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” will play Maui, a demigod who serves as the hero in the 2016 animated film, to whom he also lent his voice in the dubbing. .
