During an interview with IGN, Phil Spencer was asked about the chat Portable Xbox and the CEO of Microsoft Gaming commented on the rumors, although without confirming them, saying that in the case of handhelds he believes it is very important to be able to play natively rather than in the cloud.
“You’re saying that should we have a portable console?“, Spencer asked his interviewer, who was reasoning on the fact that Microsoft is now known for going where users express an interest, and the handheld market has been in turmoil for some time now thanks to devices like Steam Deck and ROG Ally.
“I also think we should have a portable console,” said the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, however quick to specify that this is not an announcement. “You have to ask Sarah Bondthe president of Xbox, which is great.”
Xbox’s future hardware
After saying that Xbox has never had so many users on console, Spencer spent a few words on the future of the platform in terms of hardware. “It’s going to be really cool“he explained, also referring to “different form factors.”
“The work that the team is doing on different form factors, different ways to play, is something I’m incredibly excited about. Today we talked about games, but there will be an opportunity to show ourselves to the public and talk about platforms, and we can’t wait to do that.”
It was at this point that Spencer, responding to his interviewer, said that in the case of a handheld he believes it is important to be able to play natively and not via streamingas is now accustomed to doing on the various ROG Ally, Legion GO and Steam Deck.
