Montreal to forget for Ferrari
From a very sweet water to a decidedly less satisfying one: Frederic Vasseur he went from the dive in Porto in Monaco to the rain in Montreal which marked the second double zero of the French manager’s management after the one achieved in Melbourne in 2023 (Leclerc went off the track on the first lap and Sainz was ousted from the points zone due to a penalty of five seconds discounted with arrival under the Safety Car regime).
In Canada Leclerc and Sainz started from sixth row and they failed to progress. The Monegasque had a problem with the electrical part of the power unit which cost more than a second per lap in terms of pace, the Spaniard had to deal with problems with the floor.
Frederic Vasseur commented on a bitter Sunday in the hope that it will turn out to be the worst of 2024: “Very tough weekend for all of us. With Charles we had an engine problem which caused us to lose approx 80 horsepower for about fifteen laps: we were hoping for a red flag to reset and restart but it didn’t happen and so we had to stop during the race. Charles was lapped at that point and his Grand Prix was, effectively, over. Carlos didn’t have a good start and was stuck in the group for a long time. Then unfortunately there was the contact in which he damaged the floor and rear wing in such a way that it was impossible for him to continue. It was certainly a bad weekend from the start. Let’s put it this way: hopefully we have put all the problems together in this Grand Prix and that we will return to Spain in much better shape. We will analyze everything and see what we could have done differently given that especially the race pace on Friday seemed good. It’s a long season, and there are going to be ups and downs, but I hope I never have to witness another ‘down’ like that again.“.
