Unexpected elimination and anger
Two weeks after the peak of joy for the victory achieved on home roads, in Monte Carlo, at the end of a perfect weekend, Charles Leclerc had to chew bitterly on Monteral’s Saturday. In fact, the Ferrari driver was mockingly eliminated in Q2 together with teammate Carlos Sainz. An unexpected empty pass for Ferrari (which however had already appeared in significant difficulty in FP3), which Leclerc has commented in a rather annoyed manner speaking to journalists at the end of the shift. The feeling is that, right after the Saturday morning shift, the Cavallino standard-bearer was expecting difficulties and had perhaps pushed to obtain some measures which – evidently – did not arrive.
Already in the car, the moment his elimination became ‘effective’, it was quickly understood that the Monegasque driver’s state of mind was far from good, and not just for the unexpected 11th place on the grid. Even before he was given the information that he had failed to progress to the next round from his track engineer Bryan Bozzi, in fact, Leclerc had sensed the not at all positive situation in his ranking: “I guess we’re screwed?”the comment of #16, to which Bozzi replied laconically: “Yes, Albon is pushing us back“. In reality it will then be Lance Stroll’s time which – by just 32 thousandths – will force the winner of the Monaco GP to miss the cut.
“I’ll say what I want”
At this point an understandably angry Leclerc shuts down the communications with a sharp shout “I won’t comment here”which suggests a debriefing rather access after the end of the shift. But Leclerc’s annoyance at what he saw on the track is also perceivable from another detail, which has gone viral on social media and which ‘certifies’ well the state of mind of the unfortunate #16. In fact, a few moments before speaking to the television channels, a video taken by Canal Plus shows a Ferrari press officer showing the Maranello driver a smartphone, presumably with the ‘editorial line’ to follow in interviews.
Leclerc looks at the screen and then, with a slightly annoyed look, replies: “I’ll say what I want”as actually happens, with the use of rather clear terms – “I’m pissed off” – to express your mood. A small bell from the alarm on a certain intolerance of the Monegasque after what he evidently perceived as a great missed opportunity to confirm the excellent form from which the Scuderia arrived.
