During the Day of the Devs we got to see once again the interesting platform game in “5 dimensions” Screenbound who, as he promised, shared a new trailer. Let’s remember that in this game we move both in a 3D world and in a 2D world present on the screen of a Game Boy-like (and adding them together they become 5 dimensions, but this is obviously a joke from the developers)
The moviewhich you can see just below, shows us some sections of the game with a commentary from the developers, who explain how the project was born and illustrate some of the gameplay features.
The trailer for Screenbound and what the authors explained
The film opens with the Screenbound authors explaining how the idea for the video game was born from a video in which you could see a person playing with a Game Boy: seeing the person’s hands holding the device with the background environment intrigued the authors who thus began to experiment with the idea.
Initially the 3D world was linear and the player always moved forward. At one point they tried to include the ability to turn 180 degrees, to be able to go back, but it was strange. The authors then said that most players are comfortable with FPS controls and therefore implemented them, thus allowing you to move freely in the three-dimensional map, while the two-dimensional one remained unchanged.
It is then reconfirmed that the 2D world that we see on the small screen designs the level structure in 3D and players will also be able to create levels with the editorworking only in the two-dimensional version.
It is then explained that in three dimensions it will above all be necessary to pay attention to how to proceed, while on the screen we will have to check the presence of monsterswhich are invisible in 3D.
Finally, we leave you with our special dedicated to Screenbound where you can find more information.
