The remake of Silent Hill 2 It’s an example of how Japanese and Western developers have different visions. In the case of this long-awaited title for PS5 and PC, it has been revealed that Konami intended to change multiple elements of this installmentwhile Bloober Team focused on preserving several aspects of the original title.
In a recent interview with FamitsuMotoi Okamoto, who joined Konami in 2019 to revive the series, talked about how he worked together with Bloober Team to find the perfect balance between a remake and a reimagining. This is what he said about it:
“The Japanese staff who worked on the original version said, ‘I want to change this.’ But on the other hand, Bloober Team had a lot of opinions like, ‘No, I don’t want to change this!’
Although opinions sometimes clash, in the end we manage to get it right. If you watch the trailer, you will see that it has been reborn with a modern style while retaining the good points of the original version.
Game creators don’t want to go back to doing the same thing they created. They don’t want people to enjoy the same thing. So, I think there were a lot of parts that they wanted to change drastically in the remake.
But in the end, thanks to the opinions of Bloober Team, who are big fans of the [juego] original, the remake is very faithful to the original.”
Although elements such as the interface, camera and combat system have undergone a series of substantial changes that modernize this experience, the story and the themes, which is why Silent Hill 2 is fondly remembered, they are sections that have been preservedalthough they still presented a couple of modifications.
We remind you that the remake of Silent Hill 2 will arrive on PlayStation 5 and PC on October 8, 2024. On related topics, the infamous yellow paint will not be present in the remake. Likewise, the release date of Slitterhead.
Author’s Note:
It is important to achieve a balance between new and classic. It is not easy, and many fail. Although the remake of Silent Hill 2 might not compare to the work that Capcom has done with Resident Evil at production levels, it could offer us an experience that offers the balance that some people have not found in the adventures of Leon and company.
