Anyone can experience coincidences, but there are some that have marked history and which are truly particular, to the point of leaving you almost speechless when you learn about them. In fact, two in particular have fascinated historians, scientists and even the rest of the population, given that they seem to go beyond simple coincidence.
Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy: more than mere coincidences
One of the best known cases is that involving American presidents Abraham Lincoln and John F Kennedy, as their stories have several points in common. First, Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846, while Kennedy was elected exactly 100 years later in 1946. The former was elected president in 1860 and, as you might already imagine, Kennedy in 1960.
The number 100 is recurring in this story, as Lincoln’s assassin, John Wilkes Booth who was born in 1839, and Kennedy’s assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald who was born in 1939, were killed before the trial. Both of their successors were named Johnson and were born precisely 100 years apart, Andrew Johnson in 1808 and Lyndon B. Johnson in 1908.
Another of the coincidences relating to their deaths concerns the where they were located at the time of death, as Lincoln was killed in the Ford Theater and Kennedy was assassinated in a Lincoln, i.e. a car produced by Ford. For many people it is just pure coincidence, but they are actually very particular coincidences.
The coincidences of the Titanic and the Titan
The Titanic it is probably one of the best known ships in the world, sunk in 1912 and protagonist of the very famous film of the same name in which Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Also regarding this ship there are some particular coincidences linked to a novel that was written in 1898 by Morgan Robertson.
The novel called “Futility” described the shipwreck of a ship which had the name of Titan, a ship considered unsinkable that hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic and which unfortunately had too few lifeboats on board to allow everyone to save their lives. Just what happened to the Titanic.
Furthermore, another aspect that surprised many people is the fact that in Robertson’s novel the number of victims and survivors is surprisingly close to the actual numbers recorded with the Titanic.
The Universe can be much stranger than any of us can imagine. And what do you think of these coincidences?
