Summary
Player First Games had a lot of time to improve Multiversus and the changes to the gameplay mechanics are not as noticeable when compared to the beta. Although the online combat experience is efficient, there is not enough reason to invest time when many of the daily or weekly missions are unfair when they ask you for certain types of characters that you do not have access to. The economic model of Multiversus is not so functional and for that same reason many may abandon ship, despite the fact that the gaming experience is efficient.

Multiversus It came, left and came back in the blink of an eye. At first it was a fun idea to see various Warner Bros. intellectual properties fight, the thing is that with the arrival of each character it became a kind of burden to think about how to unlock them. So many updates and an angry community put a damper on the game.
Time passed and now we have the supposed complete free-to-play enchilada that Warner Bros. Games wants to offer with Multiversus. Suddenly you have very few unlocked fighters, however, with a few hours of play you can buy one with the internal currency that you unlock. The problem is that, instead of the experience being much friendlier for the user, it may be heavier than necessary.
What’s going on? Does it make sense to suffer like this for a free-to-play? They are supposed to make me stay playing as long as possible, not make me want to leave as soon as possible because there are daily or weekly missions that are more difficult to complete than calculating taxes in April.
Warner will have to look for all possible means to keep the community playing on all platforms. Otherwise, another huge snowball could come upon them, just like with Suicide Squad which seems to be already taking its toll. Let’s see how things end.

Multiversus point by point
Betas are over
Those who played Multiversus When the “beta” started, they found what eventually became the fighting game of the year. The amount of unlockable characters wasn’t bad at all, also the economy wasn’t that broken. The point is that this project needed a stimulus, something to motivate people to continue, but that didn’t happen and it was better to freeze it for a while while they found a way to attract you.
OK, Multiversus as such it’s not a bad Smash/pushing game. The combat is more or less simplified, the way of dodging and defending works well and the variety of attacks is good. Come on, this isn’t a sword fest like it happens in SSBU where there are enough Fire Emblem characters. We have variety (although I need more Game of Thrones).
In this final version that will receive many balancing patches each season we have a game that is complete in its execution. You can play it for free, spend a lot of time and unlock some fighters with the internal currency. The economy is not broken, which is good, but you are going to have to spend a lot of time to somehow get at least your favorite characters. Also, the battle pass is not so impossible to unlock, at least the basic one.
What we are left with is a kind of experience similar to the one faced by Battlefield 2042 players who have a basic pass with a lot to unlock, also a premium pass and a few more extras. It is not an unfair model because in the end this is a free game, but many are going to feel bad because they will only have very few characters to try out. It is likely that they are going to have weekends where almost the entire cast is there so that everyone can try them and thus force you to make the investment.
A good online that also has a good number of bots
Fighting games have the difficult task of needing a good online service. Because? Well, no one likes to play with lag and an efficient combat system must be found somehow. Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 have it, but what about Multiversus? Whatever the case, it looks like the developers managed to implement some good netcode rollback.
Now, one thing is functionality and another is what happens in real action. At least the first days of Multiversus I had to fight with many bots. There was even a moment when I thought I was the Daigo Umehara of using Wonder Woman, but suddenly I had a real user who made me see my reality using Rick Sánchez.
Likewise, the joke of Multiversus It is definitely playing in pairs, because that is how the experience was being sold. When there are 4 strangers in the same game we are more likely to have poor connections and lag the game, but fortunately, this was not the case. There is even a lot of invitation for you to enjoy this free-to-play with your friends, but the truth is that if you are playing alone, it is for a reason.
That brings me to a very important point as well. Matchmaking seems like a game of making. They push you with bots, players more or less of the same level or with lazy people who drag you and remind you that you should not enter online experiences when perhaps the ideal is for you to continue fighting with other beings of the same species and not with individuals from another planet with broken abilities.
Missions and activities encourage you to unlock characters
Multiversus It does not have an arcade mode or story as such. It does have some very well put together scripts to encourage you to carry out certain missions such as reaching a point where your final enemy is the Joker or perhaps Jason from Friday the 13th. You can have a good time here trying to unlock everything by fulfilling all possible requests such as performing certain finishes, obtaining clues and more. The bad thing is that here you can find a Bugs Bunny doing the “self-death” with his rocket and you could no longer unlock everything that is asked of you in each combat.
If you are one of those who like to be in modes with winding paths, the truth is that Multiversus is for you. Personally, I think that this experience can sustain the game for a very long time, especially for those casuals who do not have as much time to invest in the experience. But here the question arises, why do you enter a free-to-play if you don’t have time?
You will always have the option of putting real money into it to unlock everything, but you will eventually have to suffer with other spending dilemmas when other characters arrive or you want to invest in cosmetics – because there are some very cool skins full of Fan Service -.
If there weren’t missions as specific as “win a fight with a detective” when you don’t even have Batman, which certainly seem unfair to me. Of course, they are not all of them, but you will be left with the look of “I’m not far away and I have to wait the next day for the missions to be renewed.” When the latter happens, you will see that they are going to ask you for a Looney Tunes and you will not have it and you will be traumatized.
They want your money, but it’s not by force either.
Play Multiversus It can be a cyclical experience if you’re a casual fan or have other, better things to do. Suddenly you’re stuck for a couple of days, maybe you spent 2 and a half hours, exaggerating 3, and you only unlocked one fighter. You can try about 3 more that are free for a limited time, but what if the ones you like aren’t there?
This is certainly a tiring exercise. Yes, you can quickly unlock a banana soldier who is more or less fun to fight, but it’s not a big deal either. You see, this game scheme works somewhat with League of Legends, but not so much with Multiversus. You end up giving up because your efforts can be overshadowed because there are very lazy people who cannot be played with.
But, there is always the path of economic violence. You can forget about it all, invest as if it were a full game, and see what the heck happens. Maybe you forget to try hard at ease, but there is also the possibility that everyone will end up tired and disgusted when you have to put money in again. Finally you realize that they caught you, but out of dignity you leave it, because you can return later… Or never, because you already left money invested that you will never see back.
It must be admitted that the experience can be much friendlier for everyone. Because no matter how much money you put in, you’re not going to get better. There is a balance between the characters that makes the experience ideal for possible esports, but that’s it. I am sure that many users will end up getting tired because they will fall into very heavy cycles that it is better to get out of than to stay in them.
The first year of Multiversus It will be complicated, but not impossible. Warner Bros. Games will manage to get ahead because it has a title that looks good, is executed correctly and has enough plots for many to enjoy it. The thing will be to maintain that user base in the medium term. What do we do for? The same thing may happen as with the beta. Mistakes here and there, lack of balance and everyone running away.
Likewise, it must be admitted that Multiversus It may feel a little slow compared to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but it does make it much less chaotic. This does not make it more tactical, because at the combat mechanics level it is somewhat limited. We need special moves, exciting animations, something that makes your jaw drop.
With all this, what do we have left? Well the answer is simple: the community will have to do the job in the medium term. Because you can have daily missions, many elements for your solo player to entertain themselves, but that may not be enough reason to invest time and money.
The community will have to do its job for this game to grow and, the truth is, if Warner does not faithfully support its consumers, we are going to end up seeing another resounding failure and one more closed service in which many invested money because that is how unfair the game is. digital life of gamers.
Should you get into Multiversus?
Multiversus returned to try to make a space for itself in the world of free-to-play proposals. The thing is that not only will it face other more robust and established proposals on the market, perhaps it is not the most player-friendly production. Even the most loyal users of the franchise will feel that they are not being fair for so many stores and few improvements in the gaming experience.
