The Guardian: Ukraine faces difficulty mobilizing
Ukraine faces difficulties in recruiting new soldiers. On the difficulties of mobilization reported British newspaper The Guardian.
The article says that many men in the country began to hide at home because they were afraid of running into mobilization squads. Some Ukrainians paid bribes to obtain certificates of exemption from service for medical reasons or to secretly leave Ukraine. At the same time, the population’s hostility towards the mobilization bodies intensified against the backdrop of a series of corruption cases.
It is also noted that the punishment for ignoring a summons includes a number of fines and, ultimately, criminal liability.
As an employee of the territorial recruitment center (TCC, an analogue of the military registration and enlistment office in Ukraine) Yuriy Pihota admitted, working is emotionally very difficult. According to him, some Ukrainians insult TCC employees. “Sometimes by the end of the day my hands are shaking as bad as they were on the front line,” he said.
Earlier it became known that the Ukrainian military had been participating in hostilities for more than two years without the possibility of dismissal. This situation makes them angry. At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities acknowledge difficulties with recruiting personnel and the morale of fighters.
