The new generation of cars
While Formula 1 is preparing for the weekend valid for the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix, the FIA took a leap into the future with the official presentation of the new technical regulations which will be introduced starting from the 2026 World Cup. In this case, the single-seaters will be smaller and lighter, with this evolution which will also allow you to attend more competitive races.
The news explained by Tombazis
An agile car concept that explained the FIA Technical Director Nikolas Tombaziswho went into more detail about the innovations presented: “With this set of regulations the FIA has attempted to develop a new generation of cars that they were fully in contact with the DNA of Formula 1 – declared the Greek engineer – light cars, extremely fast and agile, but also at the cutting edge of technology. At the center of this vision is a redesigned engine which presents a fairer distribution between the power derived from element a internal combustion and electrical energy“.
“For what concern chassis – he continued – we managed to reduce the size and weight of the car by 30 kg, resulting in a much more dynamic car. Additionally, we’re introducing two exciting new features to enhance racing: active aerodynamics to obtain very low aerodynamic resistance on straights and the Manual Override system which will provide drivers with an injection of battery energy on demand when they are close enough to the car in front.”
More entertainment and greater sustainability
In conclusion, Tombazis provided a general summary of the aims of the new Technical Regulations: “Lighter, more powerful and more focused on pilot skill – he added – was designed to offer closer racing between drivers, increase competition between teams and improve the show. Furthermore, we have opted for a greater electric component of the power unit, for an overall more efficient car and for fully sustainable fuels, as part of our drive towards a more sustainable future for our sport.”
