Engines at maximum for the 42nd edition of the 1000 Miglia. The historical re-enactment of the “most beautiful race in the world” – as Enzo Ferrari loved to define it – will take place from 11 to 15 June and will see more than 400 cars taking part in the historic Brescia-Rome-Brescia route, of which over 50 from the Alfa Romeo brand. Among these, two precious examples from the brand’s historical collection normally on display at the Arese Museum: the 1900 Sport Spider from 1954 and the 1900 Super Sprint from 1956.

The 1900 Sport Spider from 1954 will be entrusted to the expert hands of Nicola Larini, 1993 DTM champion with Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI, flanked by Rally navigator Luca Ciucci. The true Alfisti certainly cannot have forgotten his exploits in the Tourism category in the 90s. Instead, they will be behind the wheel of the 1900 Super Sprint from 1956 Andrea Farina, journalist and expert on classic cars, and Davide Cironi, influencer and YouTuber who is also passionate about motors. The two vintage rarities will be accompanied by the new ones Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio Super Sport, the special and limited series that the brand dedicated to Alfa Romeo’s first victory at the 1000 Miglia in 1928 with the 6C 1500 Super Sport. The 1900 Sport Spider (1954) is a very rare racing spider – produced in only two examples – equipped with a 4-cylinder twin-cam engine boosted to 138 HP of maximum power, which allows it to reach i 220 km/h thanks also to a weight of 880 kilos and particularly efficient aerodynamics. Distinguished by the innovative design by Franco Scaglione for the Bertone bodywork, the 1900 Sport Spider is equipped with a 5-speed gearbox and a “De Dion” rear axle, while performance and handling are of a modern car, with high road holding . The 1900 Sport Spider will compete with number “289”. Instead it presents itself with the race number “392” the 1900 Super Sprint of 1956, an elegant coupé that represents the “grand tourism” declination of the 1900, “the family car that wins races”, as the claim went in the 1950s. Based on the short version chassis of the 1900 sedan, it is equipped with a two-liter four-cylinder engine with the double camshaft typical of the brand e power of 115 HP at 5500 rpm.
