The 78th edition of the Premio Strega reaches the final with a sestina led by Donatella Di Pietrantonio, with 248 votes, with ‘The fragile age’ (Einaudi). In the voting, which took place this evening at the Roman Theater of Benevento and live streaming on RaiPlay, second place went to Dario Voltolini with ‘Winter’ (The Ship of Theseus) with 243 votes. Third place Chiara Valerio with ‘Who says and who is silent’ (Sellerio) with 213 votes, followed by Paolo Di Paolo with “Novel without humans” (Feltrinelli) with 195 votes and Raffaella Romagnolo with “Aggiustare l’Universo” (Mondadori) with 193 votes. Representing small and medium-sized publishers, Tommaso Giartosio was included with “Autobiogrammatica” (Minimum fax) with 126 votes.
The hosting of the evening was entrusted to Stefano Coletta, who interviewed the authors of the twelve candidate books while the votes were counted on stage, at the end of which Melania G. Mazzucco, president of the Stega Prize Steering Committee, announced the finalists. The election of the winning book will take place on Thursday 4 July at the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome and will be broadcast live on television by Rai Tre.
Six books enter the second vote instead of five according to article 7 of the voting regulations: “If at least one book published by a medium-small publisher is not included in the ranking of the first five (so defined according to the classification of the trade associations and the consequent evaluations of the Steering Committee), the one with the highest score advances to the second vote, giving rise to a final with six candidates”.
626 voters out of 700 expressed their preferences, between individual votes and collective votes (equal to 89% of those entitled to vote): in addition to those of the 400 Sunday Friends, 245 votes expressed by Italian scholars, translators and intellectuals are added as usual. and foreigners selected by 35 Italian cultural institutes abroad, 30 strong readers chosen from the world of professions and entrepreneurship and 25 collective votes expressed by schools, universities and reading groups, including the clubs established at the Libraries of Rome.

The finalists of the LXXVIII edition will meet the public in 19 stages, of which as always one will be abroad, on 11 June, at the Italian Cultural Institute in Brussels. The Benevento evening was organized by the City of Benevento with the Maria and Goffredo Bellonci Foundation and Liquore Strega, which promote the Award with the support of Roma Capitale, the Rome Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Bper Banca, Rai media partner, technical sponsors Feltrinelli Bookshops and Sygla.
