The national leaders of the PAN and the PRI, Marko Cortés and Alejandro Moreno, They ruled out resigning from their positions after the preliminary results of the elections this Sunday, June 2, which show an overwhelming victory for the Morena party.
In an interview with Ciro Gómez Leyva, the national leader of the PRI, Alejandro ‘Alito’ Moreno, pointed out that he will not abandon his responsibility at a time that he considers “complicated” for democracy in the country.
“Not now, I have a clear vision, we are in the most complex moment in the country, we have fought the battle and we are not going to throw away the harp,” he said.
However, he recalled that, in accordance with the reform of the party’s statutes, he must leave his position after the 2024 federal elections.
The reform, endorsed by the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) in April 2023, allowed Alito Moreno to extend his mandate for another year and in this way he could forge alliances with the PAN and PRD parties.
Moreno pointed out that the leadership renewal will be carried out once it takes place the National Assembly of the partyof which he did not give an exact date.
“We have to build it in the coming weeks and days, convene it now to start touring, start working and in the time it takes to listen, and give the results with the PRI members but mainly with the citizens who want political parties. the coalition firm, strong and solid,” he indicated.
While Marko Cortés, leader of the PAN, clarified that will not resign but “shortly” will begin leadership renewal process of the PAN.
“I have already finished the cycle for which I was elected, in the party statutes it says that after the federal electoral process the leadership is renewed, the national and all the state ones. It will start shortly, it will be in a short time when we will start,” he said in an interview with Grupo Formula.
