It seems that Sony has finally removed the “8K” logo give her new PS5 packagingeven if the situation is not yet completely clear: the thing was noticed by some users and posted on social media, but we do not know precisely the extent of this initiative or when precisely it began.
The question of 8K on PS5 has been quite debated: the logo is clearly visible in the original packaging of the console and also in many of those currently on the market, signifying the support for this display mode by the Sony console.
The PS5 is technically capable of using 8K video output, provided you obviously have an available display, but that feature has been virtually unreleased. Never used on the gaming frontexcept perhaps the only case represented by The Touryst, capable of achieving this internal resolution using supersampling.
The change is visible on PlayStation Direct
Therefore, it is above all a useful reminder on a marketing level, because on the gaming front we currently already have difficulty reaching full 4K, let alone 8K.
The issue obviously also triggered controversy over the veracity of the feature advertised on the PS5 packaging.
In fact, if you look at the picture of the packaging of PS5 Slim as reported on PlayStation Director Sony’s official online store, you notice that the 8K logo has disappeared from the top right corner, where only “4K 120” and “HDR” remain.
Some mischievous people have suggested that Sony might be planning to relaunch 8K around the release of PS5 Prothe new model not yet officially announced, but it could simply be a more sober redesign for the box, or perhaps the desire to give less grounds for any controversy.
It should also be noted that 8K is also advertised on the official Xbox Series X page, so it is an initiative somewhat shared by the two competitors.
