The man, a candidate in the local elections, was shot after challenging a person who was stealing an election poster. The attacker arrested. Last week an anti-Islam rally was targeted and one officer died
New knife attack in Mannheim, western Germany. A candidate of the far-right AfD party for the city council was injured last night around 10.45pm near the market square in the Rheinau area. The Dpa agency learned this from security sources, according to whom the suspected attacker has been arrested.
The candidate, who suffered only cuts but is still in hospital, was stabbed after challenging a person who was stealing an election poster. For the far-right party, which pointed the finger at far-left militants, two other people involved in the attack managed to escape. “We are shocked and disturbed,” commented Markus Frohnmaier, regional president of the AfD.
The incident comes shortly after the death of a German police officer who was stabbed during an anti-Islam rally in the same city last week.
