The protagonists who worked on this icon were also celebrated on the occasion, with some Volkswagen employees who assembled all generations of the iconic model. Such as Nicola Benenati who worked in Golf production for 45 years and was therefore involved in the construction of all eight generations. Or Roland Walter, who witnessed the start of production of the second generation Golf in the newly built Hall 54 40 years ago. Both have experienced firsthand the evolution of this car and above all how production has changed over the last five decades. Over 20 million of the total 37 million Volkswagen Golf units produced were born in Wolfsburg.
