Gaza (Union)
The Pentagon announced that it is continuing repair work on the floating dock in Gaza designated for transporting a small portion of humanitarian aid, which collapsed last May 24 due to waves. This came in a press conference by Deputy Pentagon Spokesperson, Sabrina Singh, yesterday, in which she stated that the cost of constructing the pier amounted to $320 million, and that repair work is continuing in the port of Ashdod in Israel.
She stated that the date for completion of the port repair work is not yet clear, noting that it is widely expected that it will be ready during this week. Singh claimed that her country continues to cooperate with the international community in order to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza “as soon as possible.” On May 17, the US Central Command (Centcom) announced the opening of the pier on the coast of Gaza, but it quickly collapsed after a week of operation due to the waves, and parts of it separated and reached the shore of the city of Ashdod.
