Mexico.- Instagram is testing “ad breaks,” a feature that forces users to stop and watch an ad for a period of time before they can continue scrolling.
Several social media users have reported seeing this feature, and an Instagram spokesperson, Matthew Tye, confirmed to The Verge that ad break testing is indeed underway.
Tye mentioned that Instagram will provide updates in case these tests result in any formal changes to the product. Users have spotted the feature while browsing stories and posts.
After a certain amount of scrolling time, Instagram prevents users from continuing until they see an ad.
The platform displays an “ad break” icon with a countdown timer indicating how much time is left before you can continue scrolling.
Although Instagram already displays sponsored posts and ads among feed content, including non-skippable ads takes this practice to another level. According to The Verge, Matthew Tye commented: “We are always testing formats that can generate value for advertisers.”
