The party of current Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced its victory in the Indian parliamentary elections. Modi wrote on the “X” social networking platform on Tuesday evening, local time, saying that the people of the country “expressed their confidence in their ruling coalition for the third time in a row.”
Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party alone won 303 seats in the previous elections, far more than the 272-seat majority required to govern.
Five years ago, Modi’s party and its allies won 353 seats, a huge majority.
