This year has been quite complicated in the world of video games, given that it began with reports of massive layoffs such as those of Microsoft that almost reached 2,000 people leaving the company, some of the divisions of Bethesda and also the newly acquired Activision Blizzard. And although the matter had already calmed down a bit, it seems that it is not over, and this can be seen with the recent report of people leaving Avalanchewho are in charge of the franchise Just Cause.
It was announced that two of its five offices in total will be closing soon, specifically those corresponding to Montreal and also NY. The consequence has 50 employees laid off, which is equivalent to approximately nine percent of the studio’s total workforce. And in the official statement it is mentioned that they see this as a complicated but necessary move for the company to remain sustainable in the case of monetary arrival.
Here is part of the statement:
Our focus now is to support all Avalanchers during this difficult time. We are grateful for the invaluable contributions of those who leave and remain committed to creating incredible gaming experiences for our players.
Here is a little more information about the company:
Avalanche Studios is a Swedish video game developer, known for creating open-world action titles. Founded in March 2003 by Christofer Sundberg and Linus Blomberg, the company has gained recognition for its expansive and dynamic games. Below is a detailed description of Avalanche Studios:
Avalanche Studios is known for its proprietary game engine, the Apex Engine, which is instrumental in creating the vast, destructible open worlds of its games. This engine allows the creation of dynamic and detailed environments, with realistic physics and impressive visuals.
It stands out for its focus on player freedom and creating open-world experiences that allow players to explore, experiment, and cause chaos to their heart’s content. Their games often feature huge open maps filled with activities, secrets, and opportunities for player creativity in the use of tools and weapons.
It has had a significant impact on the open-world action game genre, being recognized for its ability to create expansive and dynamic environments that offer great freedom to the player. Their commitment to innovation in gameplay and technology has solidified their reputation as one of the leading video game developers in their field.
This joins the sum of layoffs in the industry that apparently is not going to end soon.

Author’s note: It has been theorized that there will be more layoffs in the remainder of the year, so it is not a surprise that more will be announced later, but the problem is that almost all the major companies have already announced the news.
