“The true voyage of discovery does not consist in finding new territories, but in possessing other eyes, seeing the universe through the eyes of another, of hundreds of others: of observing the hundred universes that each of them observes, that each of them is”
MARCEL PROUST
the European Month of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
It closed a historic month for Lamborghini which celebrated the European Month of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with an endless series of initiatives. Deep, social, of great depth. Initiatives which – in fact – have changed the soul of the Sant’Agata Bolognese company a little, making it take an important step into the future. Indeed, several steps towards the journey of discovery that Marcel Proust theorized.
Obviously, Lambo has been working in the world for years, like all companies in the world OF THE, but now in addition to supporting its employees with programs ranging from well-being to parenting, from training to communication – things which earned it the IDEM certification in 2022, the first company in the automotive sector to obtain this recognition – enormous steps forward have now been made on the gender equality front. We are talking about important aspects, such as remuneration, with a marginal average male-female differential, and organisation, thanks to policies of flexibility and protection of parenthood.
The final goal
“With the aim of promoting alignment between corporate culture and people’s awareness – they explain to Lamborghini – we launched a campaign on inclusive language with an editorial plan of content and events aimed at raising awareness, inspiration and training. These contributions aim to educate on the correct use of expressions which, in some cases, can fuel gender stereotypes. Furthermore, thanks to the support of writers, philosophers, linguists and sociologists involved in the company, current issues related to the dimensions of diversity, which are central to the company strategy, will be addressed.”
The debate just organized with the players of Bologna FC entitled “Gender Equality takes to the field against stereotypes” was beautiful, in which we discussed how the world of football deals with gender prejudices, based on the experiences of the players.
Words are important
“Words have enormous value – explains Umberto Tossini, Chief People, Culture and Organization Officer of Automobili Lamborghini – they can design new opportunities and know how to be the basis for sharing meaning in communities”. Words are important, words are important, words are important of Moretti’s memory come back to the fore.
And indeed Toxins continues: “Even this year – explains – we have renewed our commitment to creating an increasingly inclusive culture alongside the European Union in the European Month of Diversity and we have done so with a specific focus on a decisive theme for reaching and strengthening people’s awareness: language . This is our concrete contribution to counteract stereotypes and train thinking, a way to get to know each other and understand how to be an active part of change.”
Lambo Talks and Lambo Podcast
From theory to practice: to create a strong corporate culture of respect and collective participation, the Lambo Talks and of Lambo Podcast, addressing issues of diversity, equity and inclusion thanks to the testimonies of experts in the sector. And then training, which remains central as an awareness tool with a series of mandatory events on the topic of Unconscious Bias (implicit prejudices) and harassment in the workplace. After the publication of an internal zero tolerance policy, the appropriate reporting and monitoring systems were in fact guaranteed.
Concrete help for families
“Central – continue at Lamborghini – it is also the direct support to families which, through the tools defined in the second level negotiation, promotes a model of “shared parenting.” This allows for an equitable distribution of care loads and responsibilities resulting from being working parents, in line with a holistic corporate vision of gender equality.”
Hence policies of welfare (economic supplements for optional parental leave and paid leave for illness or medical visits of the family unit and for the inclusion of children in nursery and/or nursery school) and particular protection ensured for the “lone parent” and parents of children with disabilities. Also beautiful “Mum & Dad Coaching”a company initiative that allows new mothers and fathers to discuss with a coach the changes that inevitably arise with the arrival of a child.
In short, if you think that Lamborghini only thinks of supercars, you’re making a big mistake. And it is no coincidence that the local community was also involved in this virtuous process with numerous projects. For example, it was founded Capo D Network (a community of businesses in the Bologna area also created with input from the Metropolitan City of Bologna) to increase awareness of equal opportunities.
