Perez, the renewal arrives
Sergio Perez he will be a Red Bull driver for the next two seasons as well. The official confirmation was given by the same Milton Keynes team a few minutes ago.
Perez’s words
“I’m really happy to tie my future to this great team, it’s an unprecedented challenge to race for Red Bull, both on and off the track. I am happy to stay here to continue our journey together and contribute to the great history of this team for another two years. Being part of the team is an immense challenge, which I love. This year we have a great challenge and I have full faith in everyone: the future is bright and I am excited to be part of it. I want to thank everyone for the trust they are placing in me, it’s a lot and I want to repay it with excellent results on and off the track. I think we have a lot of work to do, we still have a lot of championships to win together“, this is the Mexican’s comment.
Horner’s words
“It’s an important time to confirm our lineup for 2025 and we are very happy to continue working together with Checo“, added team principal Chris Horner. “Continuity and stability are important for the team and Checo and Max are a solid and successful duo, who last year ensured the Team’s first double in the championship. Checo has had a great start to 2024 with second places in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Japan and then podium finishes in China. The last few races have been difficult, the starting grid is more compact, but We are confident in Checo and hope it returns to the proven form and performance we often see. Last year was a magical season and we will have to work hard to retain our titles, but we are confident in our lineup and the team as a whole, which is imperative in what promises to be a hard-fought championship this year“.
Two-year contract
In the negotiations between the Mexican and Red Bull, the driver’s will therefore prevailed, as he had asked the team for a two-year renewal and not an annual one or a 1+1. The renewal will allow Perez to be at Red Bull until he is 36 and to drive for the team even at the beginning of the era of the new power units.
The contract extension is not a surprise except for the timing (Horner had stated that Red Bull was in no hurry to decide on the 2025 lineup). Red Bull’s plan for years has been to have a clear separation between first and second drivers, and Carlos Sainz (the only free alternative on the market who would give Red Bull guarantees to do better than Perez) would not come to Milton Keynes to do the second to Max Verstappen.
