‘The Illusion’ of the Trials
The weekend of Italian Grand Prix had opened with promising results at home Yamahaespecially for Alex Rins. The Spaniard, even 2nd in Practice, had expressed his happiness with the feeling with the bike during Friday, but reiterated the need to continue working with the team in view of the races. A recommendation that did not lead to the desired effects, with the former Suzuki and Honda rider still finishing in the points, but only at 15th place.
He struggles throughout the race
Starting from the tenth spot on the grid, Rins lost positions especially in the first half of the race, without then being able to catch up on the riders in front of him in the standings: “For sure it wasn’t the race I wanted – commented – I fought hard to finish in 15th position. I struggled throughout the race, right from the start. I improved the start compared to the Sprint: this time I lost two positions. Then, lap after lap, I tried to be present. I tried to manage the bike, I tried to manage my physical conditionwhy drive at the moment our bike is pretty rough. But these races are more than anything else tests for us. It’s a unique moment where we can compete with other drivers, our rivals, and draw information from that.”
Arm pain
Complex race also for Fabio Quartararo, who had already not completed the Sprint after a contact with Miguel Oliveira, who was not penalized by the Race Direction. A choice that had sent the Frenchman into a rage, who then slipped from the 15th starting position to 18th finalthus not finishing in the points for the second time in this world championship: “It was a very tough race, especially from a physical point of view – he specified – I had an arm problem, I wasn’t able to ride well in the last ten laps. It’s not an arm problem, it’s just that my arm is at its limit when racing on this type of track. It’s a shame we couldn’t be fast. We expected more from this race. We struggle when grip is low. We hope to find a solution to make the bike easier to ride. We have some things planned for tomorrow’s test to combat one of our weaknesses. If this will help us here, I think it will also help us with the physicality of driving.”
