Georgian Prime Minister Kobakhidze calls talk about Washington sanctions frivolous
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze called talk of US sanctions over the law on foreign agents frivolous. His words lead RIA News.
“Talks about sanctions are not serious for us; if someone talks about it, it is counterproductive for them,” he said, commenting on Washington’s plans to introduce restrictions against the Georgian side.
In addition, Kobakhidze called false information from a number of media outlets that members of the country’s ruling Georgian Dream party were allegedly receiving emails about the imposition of sanctions on US visas for officials.
The Foreign Influence Transparency Act came into force on Monday, June 3. In order for the new norms to work, the parliament had to override the veto of Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili. Later, the head of the State Department press service, Matthew Miller, said that the United States would introduce visa restrictions against Georgia because of the law on foreign agents.
