We fly to Canada
Everything is ready at home Haas for the return to North America, this time for a GP on the border with the United States: the ninth round of the championship will in fact be held on the circuit ‘Gilles Villeneuve’ of Montreal, IN Canadawhere the Anglo-American team will land to forget the sporting nightmare experienced in the last round in Monte Carlo.
Put Munich behind you
First disqualified at the end of the qualifications due to a technical irregularity linked to the excessive opening of the DRS, the Nico Hülkenberg e Kevin Magnussen ended shortly after leaving for the collision between the latter and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, with the German remaining involved in the impact. An episode that had generated controversy due to the Dane’s maneuver, not penalized by the Race Direction but who will still have to pay attention both in Canada and in the next events not to suffer sanctions, which could cost him a GP disqualification due to the 10 penalty points on the own Superlicense on the maximum 12 that can be accumulated.
The characteristics of Montreal
Another mission for this weekend will be to complete a positive race in Montreal, where he achieved 9th place as his best result in 2014, in his first year in F1 with McLaren: “Montreal is another great track and another classic I would say, even if it doesn’t have the history of Monaco or Monza, for example – explained Magnussen – it’s surely a track for drivers who fly over curbs and brake late in chicanes. There’s a lot of racing, with good overtaking opportunities and overall it’s a fantastic place to go. The city is fantastic, the food, the hotels and the fans – I have nothing bad to say! However, I don’t think I’ve ever had a fantastic weekend in this city, so I aim to do so this season.”
‘Canadian’ optimism
He will also aim to return to the points Nico Hülkenberg, in the top ten on three occasions this year, the last of which was in China. Curiously, again in 2014, the German achieved one of his best placings in F1 with 5th place at the wheel of Force India: “I love Montreal and it’s probably my favorite track on the calendar – added the future Sauber driver – I like the location on the little island, the drive to the circuit in the morning and the atmosphere in Montreal. It wins me over every year and I really enjoy coming here. The circuit has a very nice flow, even though it is rather flat. It doesn’t have any differences in height, but the rhythm of the track is really unique and I really like it. Last year was very positive, especially on Saturday, while on Sunday we were not competitive and slipped back. I can’t wait to get on the track. This year we are in a better position and we should be able to translate a good qualifying into a race result”.
