The “Bee Forest” is a unique initiative of its kind, born with the aim of creating and promoting the food forests or vegetable gardens, which are multifunctional cultivated systems capable of simulating, on a small scale, a forest ecosystem.
In these green spaces, fruit plants, medicinal herbs, berries, vegetables and flowers coexist harmoniously with spontaneous plants and animals, generating a habitat rich in biodiversity. It is not only a refuge for pollinators, but also a place of biomonitoring open to anyone who wants to explore nature.
Bosco delle Api: a refuge for biodiversity and much more
Martina Borghifrom the Greenpeace Italia Forests campaign, explains that the project, started in Rome in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic Covid–19, aims to make cities more sustainable and resilient to climate change. In 2023, thanks to the support of Agropolis Social Cooperativethe initiative was extended to Cremona, in Po Valleyone of the most polluted areas in Europe.
Not only Bosco delle Api represents a natural solution against climate change, but also becomes one open space for meetings, educational activities and cultural initiativeshelping to raise people’s awareness of the importance of nature conservation.
The environmentalist association asks Italian and European institutions to ban pesticides that are harmful to the health of pollinators and to translate into actions concrete the commitments undertaken with the adoption of the Framework global for biodiversity Kunming-Montreal and the EU strategy for the Biodiversity to the 2030.
