Traffic departments nationwide recorded 15,613 violations of “entering the road without ensuring it is clear,” during the past year, according to the Ministry of Interior’s statistics on traffic accidents by type of violation.
The violations committed by drivers nationwide were distributed among 5,752 violations in Abu Dhabi, 6,019 in Dubai, 1,399 in Sharjah, 1,911 in Ajman, 55 in Umm Al Quwain, 269 in Ras Al Khaimah, and 208 violations in Fujairah.
Statistics showed that entering the road without ensuring that it was clear caused 371 accidents nationwide last year, distributed among 70 accidents in Abu Dhabi, 214 in Dubai, 12 in Sharjah, 11 in Ajman, 32 in Ras Al Khaimah, 22 in Fujairah, and 10 accidents in Umm Al Quwain.
The Federal Traffic Law stipulates that the penalty for violating “entering the road without ensuring that it is clear” is a fine of 400 dirhams, and four points will be imposed on the violating driver.
Abu Dhabi Police called on drivers to ensure that the road is clear before entering it, in order to enhance their safety while driving, by following five rules: slowing down when arriving at the road entrance, using the side traffic signal, and slowing down if there is a parked vehicle. In front, give priority to vehicles coming from the main road, and ensure that the road is clear of vehicles.
Every year, traffic departments in the country record thousands of violations against drivers due to distraction from the road while driving a vehicle, which is classified as a serious violation, as it leads to deaths and serious injuries on the roads, according to statistics and analytical studies of accidents and traffic violations.
The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Federal Traffic Council, recently launched the third unified traffic awareness campaign for the year 2024, under the slogan “A Summer Without Accidents,” and it will continue until the first of next September, targeting all road users and drivers of all types of vehicles.
The campaign aims to raise awareness among all segments of society about the dangers of traffic accidents, by following the necessary instructions and instructions related to vehicle safety, performing regular maintenance, and ensuring the safety of tires and excess loads in order to preserve lives and property, and achieve safe driving during the summer period to reduce the occurrence of accidents and serious injuries. .
The Ministry of Interior stated that the campaign embodies its strategy to make roads safer, by educating all segments of society about the damage resulting from traffic accidents, and the resulting deaths, injuries, and material and moral damage.
The Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, Brigadier General Engineer Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, said that the campaign comes to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety for all, and is part of the efforts made to control road security, enhance safety, and reduce traffic accidents, and will be implemented in cooperation and coordination with all strategic partners from ministries and federal and local bodies. And many authorities concerned with traffic safety in the country, with the aim of reaching the largest segment of society, by broadcasting traffic awareness messages in three different languages, namely Arabic, English and Urdu, on various social media platforms.
He added that choosing the slogan for the “Summer Without Accidents” campaign coincides with the start of the summer vacation and the travel season, which requires taking many precautions related to vehicle safety, by ensuring the safety of tires, performing regular vehicle maintenance, and the necessity of adhering to the permissible load limits. On the roof of the vehicle, whose height does not exceed 60 centimetres, in addition to ensuring that the lighting lights and vehicle direction change signals are working, and that there are no flammable materials in the vehicles, and urging them to adhere to the implementation of the Traffic Law, adhere to the specified speeds, and leave a sufficient safety distance between vehicles.
