Energy, Antitrust pressure on 13 companies
The Competition and Market Guarantor Authority decided to carry out 13 moral suasion interventions towards the companies Illumia, Jen Energy, Dolomites Power, Axpo Italy (Pulsee Electricity & Gas), Ajo’ Energy, Acea Energia, Ecom-Energu Common, Agsm Aim Energy, Hera Comm, Wekiwi, Omnia Power, Simple Gas & Electricity, E.On Energy because the offers advertised online were not fully compliant with consumer protection regulations.
In particular, following the expected cessation of the protected marketthe Authority monitored the commercial offers proposed by the main sales companies of electricity and gas present on the free market to verify the transparency and completeness of the promotional information provided to consumers, with regard to both the economic components and the environmental claims.
The Authority found critical issues in the various cost items because there was no indication of some charges that make up the price of energy. Regarding the environmental claimsHowever, it emerged that some statements by the companies did not provide detailed and certified information on the concrete actions carried out.
Therefore, at the end of the monitoring, the interested companies were invited to integrate their promotional information in a clear and exhaustive way, by indicating all the charges (discretionally foreseen by the sales companies) that make up the energy expenditure.
Furthermore, the authority asked to prepare complete and correct information on the matter green claimaccompanied by certifications and declarations relating to environmental benefits, which can be easily consulted.
These latest interventions are part of the continuous and strong attention that the Competition and Market Guarantor Authority is paying and will continue to pay to electricity and gas marketas reiterated by the President Roberto Rustichelli during the hearing on the problems relating to the transition from the protected market to the free electricity market in the Productive Activities Committee of the Chamber, held on Tuesday 28 May.
