This June 2, thousands of people went out to vote for the different positions that were at stake in the 2024 elections and everything indicates that we will not have a first ladysince the candidates with the highest number of votes in the preliminary count by the INE are Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for Morena – PVEM and PT or Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz for the PRI PAN – PRD Alliance.
One of the questions that has drawn the most attention among those interested in the elections, especially in the elections to know “who will be AMLO’s successor”, is: “What will the husband of the first president of Mexico be called?“.
Although on social networks and in the streets full of good humor, the husband or partner of a Head of State is called “first lady”, the correct vocabulary is far from being like that.
What do you call the husband of a president?
Without further ado, the romantic partner of Claudia Sheinbaum or Xóchitl Gálvez will be called ‘first gentleman’.
One of the two men who could occupy the aforementioned position is Jesús María Tarriba, a physicist originally from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, who met the Morenista candidate when they were both studying at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Rubén Sánchez, Xóchitl Gálvez’s partner, has kept a low profile until now, although he has been seen with her on some occasions. They met while she was studying Computer Engineering at UNAM and he was studying Chemical Engineering at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN).
The count with cut-off at 9:47 p.m., central time, with 7,243 tallies computed and 4.2444% of the total, indicates an advantage for Claudia Sheinbaum with 59.2414%, Xóchitl Gálvez with 28.6948% and Jorge Álvarez Máynez 9.5198%.
