Sébastien Ogier seems to have a clear path towards the fifth success of his career at the Rally Italia Sardegna, which would thus make him the most successful driver ever on the Italian island.
The Toyota Gazoo Racing driver also won the Special Stage 10, the Coiluna – Loelle 1 of 14.53 kilometres, preceding Ott Tanak, his first and only rival for the victory, by 6.4 seconds.
Ogier had to do nothing but maintain the pace shown today, while it is more than likely that Tanak obeyed the team orders given by Hyundai Motorsport, namely that of not risking anymore and taking home the points for the World Championship Builders.
A more than questionable choice, that of the team directed by Cyril Abiteboul, because Ott was in the middle of a battle with Ogier and the two were separated by a couple of seconds. After this special, however, Tanak slipped to almost 10 seconds behind the event leader.
At the end of the special, the 2019 world champion claimed to have lost confidence in the bike. Hard to believe, especially after how much good he did during the day, taking the lead twice and still remaining in close contact with Ogier.
Elfyn Evans tries timidly to recover second from Dani Sordo, but the Spaniard is managing the situation and third place perfectly. Sordo can count on an advantage of 25″6 over Evans and will hardly recover the entire margin between now and the end of the race.
In WRC2 Sami Pajari continues to dominate and lead on his direct rivals. Jan Solans is now 58 seconds behind him, so almost a minute. Furthermore, the young Finn also managed to further detach himself from Gregoire Munster with the only Ford Puma Rally1 Hybrid remaining in the standings, thus occupying fifth place overall.
