Although a rocket may seem very technical, it is an essential tool for society. Internet connections, navigation systems or probes that study climate change depend on rockets. There are now more than 8,000 satellites in orbit, but it is expected that by the end of the decade there will be more than 100,000.
Although they are so important, the European Union does not currently have its own rocket to launch them. In 2023 the Ariane 5 was retired and the war in Ukraine prevented the Russian Soyuz from being used in launches. That will be solved next July, when the Ariane 6 is launched, four years late. Europe must work now to continue to have systems in the future that allow it to maintain its autonomy in space.
