According to Jeff Ross, director of Days Gone and former developer of Bend Studiothe new game the team is working on would have very high development costs, there is even talk of 250 million dollars. Many more, in his opinion, than would have been necessary to realize a potential Days Gone 2. As you may know, a pitch for a sequel was proposed years ago, but it was rejected by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
A document published by Sony a few days ago revealed that Bend Studio is part of the teams that are working on games in the “Evolving / Multi-Genre” category, which means that it could be one of the many studios tasked with making a live service game.
“Whatever they’re working on, they’ve spent at least a quarter of a billion dollars on it,” Ross said. “I’m not a businessman, but it’s a crazy amount considering the fact that Sony didn’t want to finance it a sequel to Days Gone for the modest sum of $150 million (crazy numbers anyway, to be honest).”
SIE leaders don’t like Days Gone?
With a second post Ross also added as well Days Gone would have sold more copies than Death Stranding, which on the contrary, as we know, has a sequel in development and probably due out next year. So why hasn’t a Days Gone 2 been given the green light? In his opinion the reason is that “executives like Hermen Hulst were never fans” of the game.
Obviously taking all the information above with a pinch of salt. Ross certainly still has some contacts within Bend Studio, however it is impossible to verify the veracity of his claims in any way.
