Miguel Ángel Borja had been lining up to join the Colombian Senior National Team. The forward finally appeared in Néstor Lorenzo’s squad for the friendlies against the United States, on June 8, and Bolivia, on the 15th of the same month.
For now, Borja arrives at the call on fire: This Thursday he scored two goals for River to beat Deportivo Táchira 2-0, at the closing of the group stage of the Copa Libertadores 2024.
In the 51st minute, the Colombian scored the first goal, with his left foot, inside the area, after a clearance from Claudio Echeverri.
At 85, Borja appeared again as a fisherman in the small area to take advantage of a serve from Franco Mastantuono and seal the victory for his team.
Miguel Ángel Borja broke Víctor Aristizábal’s record
The mark was held by Víctor Hugo Aristizábal, who had 42 points. With Atlético Nacional he scored 33: 21 in Libertadores, 4 in the Super Cup, 5 in the Merconorte Cup and 3 in the Sudamericana.
With Deportivo Cali he did one in Libertadores; with Sao Paulo, 5 in the Super Cup and one in the Nicolás Leoz Gold Cup, and with Coritiba, one in Libertadores and one in Sudamericana.
Now, Borja comes to the National Team with a thirst for revenge: he has been away from the national team for two years, with which he has scored 8 goals in 27 games.
