OpenAI has made a series of new features available in the free version of its ChatGPT AI, marking a notable step forward in terms of accessibility and potential offered by the platform. Users can now access customized versions of GPT, analyze charts, ask questions about images, and take advantage of other advanced features that were previously reserved for paying users. Until recently, features like model responses and web searches, data analysis, charting, file uploading, and custom versions of GPT were exclusive to ChatGPT Plus, Teams, and Enterprise subscribers. Now, however, these features are accessible to all ChatGPT users, at no additional cost.
Free users can now explore and use custom GPTs, but they don’t yet have the ability to create their own versions. Existing customized versions of ChatGPT range from an on-demand thesaurus to a shopping guide at Ikea. Additionally, creators of custom GPTs can participate in a revenue-sharing program that OpenAI began testing in March. With access to data analysis and charting, users can connect their data from OneDrive and Google Drive to ChatGPT to perform quick analyzes and create customizable charts. This feature is particularly beneficial for those who manage large amounts of data and need immediate and clear visualizations to make informed decisions.
Despite these new features, paying subscribers still retain some benefits, such as a lower limit on the number of messages. When free users reach their message or conversation limit using GPT-4o, they are automatically redirected to GPT-3.5, thus continuing to benefit from a high-quality experience, albeit with some limitations compared to the more advanced version. One feature that users will no longer find, regardless of subscription type, is Sky voice. OpenAI removed this entry, known for its similarity to Scarlett Johansson’s performance in her film “Her,” due to the controversy that followed. However, other voices remain available on ChatGPT, still offering a variety of voice options.
