It’s looking bad for The Rogue Prince of Persia. Less than 48 hours after launch, it is already out of Steam’s global top 100, a sign of less than stellar sales. In short, the oriental style Dead Cells has not convinced the players, who seem to be snubbing it en masse.
The negative trend of the game is somehow confirmed by the data available on SteamDB, which shows a decidedly gloomy situation. Currently the peak concurrent players is 187with the absolute peak stopping at 849 people, recorded practically at the time of launch.
Unlike other games, which see a growth in players in the first few days, already yesterday The Rogue Prince of Persia had seen the number of active players more than halve, with the maximum peak stopping at 413.
An expected failure?
In short, it seems that the new Evil Empire roguevania is struggling a lot to get going, although the reception from players has not been negative, given that almost 80% of user reviews on Steam are positive.
It should be underlined that The Rogue Prince of Persia still is Early access only, so it still has ample room for improvement. Only it is clear that more was expected from a new Prince of Persia, albeit of a particular type.
Which was penalized by the release of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown at the beginning of the year? That is, the traditional market, already limping by him, was unable to handle two Prince of Persia released a few months apart. Furthermore, many had already struggled to digest the Prince of Persia metroidvania… that a roguevania was completely indigestible for him, despite its excellent qualities?
