Beaches, mandatory drinking water in showers: it’s controversial
L’summer it hasn’t started yet but already i seaside they are on a war footing and are threatening not to open them this year either beaches.
In recent years, national legislation on protection of water resources has become increasingly stringent, in order to preserve supplies of drinking water and promote sustainable use. In particular, the law, which came into force last March, has imposed the obligation to use drinking water for showers, hand basins and foot basins.
This legislation has also had significant implications for the seaside sector. In most establishments Viareggioa renowned location on the Tuscan coast, the traditional showers directly on the beach or have been removed or are not working. The managers of the establishments had to adapt to the provisions, suspending a service that has characterized Viareggio bathing for decades.
He tells what happened yesterday in the bathing establishments Tyrrhenian Andrea Pardini, owner of the “Mauro” bathroom in Torre del Lago: “We had notable protests. The customers went noand the toilets and started washing their bodies and feet in the sinks. Creating an enormous inconvenience: everything in the toilets was wet and, water mixed with sand, after two hours it was a pigsty“.
It remains to be seen whether this will be possible in the future identify alternative solutions which, while respecting environmental sustainability, allow us to maintain a service so appreciated by users of bathing establishments.
